It has never been more of an important last round than the one the Rabbitohs find themselves in next week. South Sydney got blown away by the Broncos on Thursday night and it really is a danger time for Rabbitohs. With Greg Inglis out of the team we looked weak and lacked energy. Michael McGuire has no doubt got a lot to work on in the coming weeks and how he turns our team around will be a true test to his character. He may have already started his preparation on the weekend with Chris McQueen, Paul Carter and Cameron McInnes all left out of the Norths team. All those players were named but McGuire may have been looking towards Finals footy.
It’s always a big round of footy in the last round. A lot of teams have a lot to play for and it’s always the case of teams looking at results to see what they have to do. South Sydney are already guaranteed a Finals spot, but they still want to win against the Sydney Roosters next week to move up in the top 8. I always had a feeling that we would struggle in the last few games of the season and we most certainly have. It hasn’t been easy with suspensions and injuries but that’s just part of the game. The biggest problem with South Sydney heading into the Finals is momentum and confidence. The Rabbits are coming in with a lack of form and usually you’ll find that the teams that win the competition have strung together a few games leading in.
It’s been a while since Souths have been under pressure to perform. Since Madge took over we haven’t been this low on form. The Roosters match will no doubt be a tough ask considering how good they’ve been playing. The Broncos game was one to put behind us. Where this leaves The Rabbits is something that I don’t know the answer to. The defence was poor and our attack wasn’t great either. If you can’t beat one of the best teams in the comp with your attack then you probably won’t get a good look at winning the competition. South Sydney is a team that can put on a massive show when they want to aim up and there’s no better way then starting next week.
To get into the Finals there’s a few scenarios we need to go our way. Believe it or not South Sydney can actually make their way into 4th position on the ladder depending on results. The games next week we need to watch out for are:
Brisbane Vs Melbourne
St George Illawarra Vs Wests Tigers
Cronulla Vs Manly
Canterbury Vs Warriors.
Massive games with a lot writing on them.
How can we turn around our result around from last Thursday?
What does Madge need to do to help us reach our peak?
Will Greg Inglis make it back to help us?
