South Sydney have finally locked up Cody Walker, avoiding a potentially embarrassing blunder which almost led to him leaving for Brisbane.

The club announced on Tuesday night that Walker had finally inked a three-year contract extension which will keep him at Redfern until the end of 2019.

"Cody Walker dropped by Rabbitohs HQ today to put pen to paper on those next three years!" the club tweeted alongside a picture of Walker and his young family.

The club was left red-faced earlier this month when Walker was linked with a departure to the Broncos next season despite seemingly being under lock and key.

The Rabbitohs last month trumpeted a two-year contract extension however it later emerged he had not officially signed.

The Broncos tabled a $600,000 three-year deal to the late-blooming utility with master coach Wayne Bennett eager to sign the 26-year-old.

However, he rejected the Broncos' overtures to stay at Redfern.

Walker has been a revelation since debuting in the halves in round one this year and has been excellent since being shifted in May to the unfamiliar position of fullback.
