Former Canberra coach David Furner has been added to South Sydney's staff in an assistant role behind under-pressure Michael Maguire.

Maguire took the club to the NRL finals in his first three years at Redfern, including to the 2014 premiership, but this year the Rabbitohs have slumped to 14th on the ladder amid an eight-game losing streak.

Souths have also appointed Paul Devlin as the club's new head of performance after he spent two years as physical performance manager at Parramatta.
